Wrongs Made Right
The churches needed to know the wrongs they have experienced would be made right. This is the core message of Revelation.
After seeing vindication, the dragon thwarted and patient and faithful endurance as God’s special purchase, we see this picture of the future church. A picture of complete victory.
At this point in history, patience is no longer necessary. There is a multitude of people who have defeated the beast all standing on a sea of glass with fire inside of the glass. This is a pretty awesome image! This is an image of victory. They suffered wrongs. But all those wrongs are now made right.
And then we see the 7 angels (representing the 7 elders, representing the Church). They hold the 7 bowls of God’s wrath. And they are the ones who will pour out God’s wrath on the world. This is consistent with what Paul says about the church in 1 Corinthians 6:2. He tells them the Church will judge the world. Not now, but later when God gives us the bowls of his wrath. This is the picture of vindication.
In America, we don’t fight persecution. But we still fight against the difficulties of sin. The effects of sin on our own life. And the effects of sin on Creation. We struggle because we live in a broken world. But victory is won! Victory over a broken world will be ours. Don’t give up! Until the end, keep finding victory in Jesus because we will stand with him with a multitude on a sea of glass with fire mixed in it!
Throughout this year (Aug. 2016-Aug. 2017), CrossPoint will be reading through the New Testament. We are doing this because we’re learning about the Church and the New Testament is the handbook for the church. Therefore, join us as we follow this reading plan. Today’s reading is from Revelation 15.
