Whatever Was First Is First

Paul continues to point out the brillance of God in setting up righteousness by faith in Christ. If we want to go by rules & law to find righteousness, we have to consider a couple of things…

1. Whichever comes first is…well…first.

Righteousness by faith came 430 years before the law. This is the promise from God. This is the inheritance from God.

The purpose of the law was never to bring righteousness. More on the law’s purpose in the next post.
But faith to Abraham was very abstract. He had no concrete object to place his faith in. But God has that covered as well…

2. The promise comes through Abraham’s seed.

Jesus is the Seed of Abraham by which all nations will be blessed.

So it is by faith in Christ that we find righteousness. And Christ is very concrete. While we cannot see him with our eyes today, we are able to read and envision what his life was like.

Unlike Abraham, we have a real, live person to follow. And he will always lead us into righteousness.

Losing My Religion is a sermon series about being free from religious superiority. Read along with us in Galatians and Matthew 23 with our Reading Plan. Today’s reading is from Galatians 3:15-18.
