We Are Cursed

Paul now ties in his argument to the law itself…

1. Paul paints us into a bad corner by using the law.

If we’re not perfect according to the law…then we are cursed.

So if we decide that we will go that route towards life, we can…but we have to be perfect in our interpretation and application of the law.

Therefore, if we decide to go by rules then we have to do it all the way.

Anyone taking that bet?

2. Life comes by faith.

That’s really what we’re talking about here. How can we receive life?

Sin brings death. But faith brings life to us.

And we must remember that trying to live by rules is sin…which is death.

3. Jesus was & is our curse.

Paul does a great job in pointing out God’s brilliance.

If we are cursed, then we must have someone be a curse to cure the curse.

And if Jesus fulfilled the law perfectly, then he was not cursed.

But God thought through that. He put into the law (1,000+ years BC) that anyone who hangs on a tree is cursed.

Thus making Jesus a curse, not by anything that he did, but by what people did to him.

And this is how us Gentiles can now come to faith and life in Jesus. He became everyone’s curse by dying on the cross (a tree). And he became everyone’s life by living out the law perfectly.

Wow. Just wow.
