As Paul shares his story, two things stand out in this passage…
1. Paul used to destroy the church and now he builds it up.
Think about that. Maybe you noticed it in the previous reading as well. Paul used to destroy the church! If anyone should feel guilty about his past, he should. But here and everywhere else, he just says it as a matter of a fact. Why? Because he cannot do anything more than what Jesus has already done to forgive, cleanse & give righteousness.
This means that you and I do not need to feel guilty about our past. Learn from it? Yes. Repent of sin? Yes. But also know that Jesus has already done everything. Our guilty feelings do not get Jesus to love us more. They do not get Jesus to forgive us more.
Guilt and condemnation are tactics from the devil to get us to not live in freedom.
2. People glorify God because of Paul’s transformation.
Glorify = Make God visible. The transformation God gives allows us to make his healing power visible.
People matter to God. This is why he wants to transform people. And when he transforms people…more people want to be transformed.
How has God transformed you? Right now, he’s doing a work to make me more dependent upon him. That sound cliche, but things are happening right now that if God doesn’t work…there is no more work! He’s transforming me into someone who considers & prays throughout the day…not just at designated times.
What is he doing inside of you right now that can let others see his power in your life?
