Give Away Laughable Hope

Jesus gave laughable hope.

Anytime I read this story, I can’t get over the laughing part.

The girl, their daughter, just died. The mourning was extensive. But in the middle of the mourning, Jesus said something that was funny to them.

“Don’t cry. The girl is just asleep.”

Jesus gave laughable hope.

Hope is the certainty that the future will be better than the past or present.

And the thought of the girl being asleep was beyond any hope. So far beyond it was laughable.

I want us to get to the point that our hope is so firm in Jesus that we give away laughable hope.

“Your finances can be made right.” Chuckle.
“You can find someone who will treat you right.” Laughter.
“God does love you and will forgive you.” Out right laugh in our face.

I’ve got a long way to go.
We’ve got a long way to go.

But someday we can give away so much hope that we get laughed at.

A lot.

How can you give away laughable hope today?

Our current reading plan is based off our Sunday series called Restored. Jesus did a bunch of miracles showing the Kingdom is close and restores peoples’ life. Today’s reading is from Luke 8:40-42; 49-56.
